From our first meeting with Lucy it was clear that she didn’t take herself too seriously. Understanding that helped us tremendously when she was an hour late getting to the reception. We’re not talking about an hour for pictures — ANOTHER hour on top of that.

She and the bridal party were in a limo bus partying like rock stars cruising all over downtown. We thought it was awesome. How often do you have a bride this laid back?

The Ceremony was at the spectacular Ocean Course at Kiawah. It featured our white resin chairs and a delightful monogrammed aisle runner.

The reception was a showcase of many of our all-time favorites: Mahogany Ballroom Chairs, Pecan Shell and Seal Brown Bengaline Linens, New South China and Flatware.

Lucy is a third-shift pediatric oncology nurse. In lieu of guest favors, Lucy and Matt made a generous donation to the new children’s library at the hospital where she worked. These little books were displayed at each table with a note explaining this.

At our first meeting with this meeting planner she handed us this card and said, “This is awards night.” Our first thought was, “Yikes! we’re going to have to hang dragonflies all over the ballroom!” She went on to explain that her events always start with a piece of paper. In this case, she had seen all the different blue and green crystals on this dragonfly card and knew that would be the theme of her next event. So we started with the silver cachepots and matte satin linens you see here, and added subtle blues and greens throughout the ballroom. Her vision was fully realized with a stunning lighting system that washed the ballroom in greens and blues all evening.

Dragonflies for Dinner

We were absolutely thrilled when Jeny called to say her daughter Hilary was getting married. We had last seen Hilary at her sister Sarah’s wedding at Boone Hall in ’05. Planning Sarah’s wedding was a joy, but becoming friends with her family was just the best surprise of the year. 

Jeny and Sarah had planned her wedding with us from their home in New England. and if that wasn’t challenging enough, Sarah was finishing her studies at Harvard the entire time!

Fast forward to 2011:

Hilary was working as an editor here in Charleston and her parents had retired and moved to Mount Pleasant. This was going to be a great time.

We love this photo…from our first planning meeting through tastings, walk-thrus and wedding morning hiccups, Hilary was this chill.  That’s what happiness will do…

The ceremony took place on the lawn featuring white resin chairs, shepherd hooks, and our topiary columns. The reception was under the tent including our paper lantern lighting system, natural ballroom chairs, and ivory and slate linens and ties.

Hilary and Cullen – Lowndes Grove Plantation

We first met Jasmine and Erich in our bridal studio and we knew right away they were going to be a great couple to work with. Erich is a recent Citadel graduate so the wedding took place at the Citadel Beach House.  We became friends with Jasmine on Facebook and soon realized we weren’t the only ones who thought she was beautiful and adorable. So, for the next several months we tracked Erich’s mountaineering exploits and Jasmine’s Zumba adventures and helped plan a wedding too.  The picture above tells you everything you need to know about this lighthearted bride

A Carefree Afternoon at The Citadel Beach House

There are lots of times as a destination management company when you can’t help but feel like you’re doing the same thing over and over. Shotgun golf tournaments, spa appointment grids, airport “meet and greet”, restaurant dine-arounds, the list goes on… It’s all important. It has to run smoothly. We’re all over it. But then the phone rings and the voice on the other end says, “Hi, It’s Terri with Wells Fargo in Richmond. I’m planning a family evening in Charleston for 400ppl this summer. It has to be a huge WOW. What do you think we should do?”NOW WE’RE TALKING…

Now, the biggest challenge with a family event is that everybody (and that’s ages 2 to 62) has to be happy at the same time. Think “Dick Cheney meets The Wiggles” and you can see how wrong this can go in a hurry.  Fortunately at The Sanctuary at Kiawah, there are two adjacent oceanfront lawns. We’re pretty sure the architects weren’t thinking about jump castles when they designed it, but it was perfect for this event, nonetheless. Grown-ups on the Grand Lawn with amazing grilling stations, bars, and the band. Kids down “The Midway” enjoying jump castles, carnival games, classic fair food (OF COURSE!), jugglers, clowns and even an exotic fortune teller alternately thrilling and creeping out our younger guests all evening.
